Phil S. Baran is the recipient of the 2010 Thieme–IUPAC Prize.


His research is primarily focused on the total synthesis of natural products, and is characterized by highly efficient and imaginative routes to form complex molecular architectures with minimal use of protecting groups. Professor Baran’s success in his chosen field are extraordinary for a scientist still in the early stages of his independent research career, and have been documented in an incredibly impressive list of publications.
